Mandar Karhade, MD, PhD, MPH, brings more than 10 years of experience in a wide range of areas including healthcare technology, genomics, oncology, machine learning, and natural language processing.

“We are excited to grow our Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR) capabilities across Avalere’s practices,” said Sarah Altwardt, Practice Director of Avalere’s Center for Healthcare Transformation. “Mandar brings more than 10 years of clinical and advanced analytics experience and a wide array of expertise in outcomes research, healthcare technology, and advanced analytics. His experience will allow us to better serve our clients, and we look forward to having his perspective on our team.”

Prior to joining Avalere, Mandar led a team of data scientists at Ontada. His work focused on enrichment of EMR data using natural language processing. He developed advanced-analytics solutions predicting rehospitalizations and death in cancer patients, and has led the research in the telehealth service utilization.

He is experienced in evaluating data acquisitions, HEOR analytics solutions, and healthcare tech platforms. He has also served as a clinical subject matter expert and consultant on various projects supporting the commercial intelligence and HEOR research groups of his previous employer McKesson.

At the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, he led outcomes research on 2 prospective clinical trials. These clinical trials proved the prognostic value of circulating tumor cells in breast cancer and melanoma patients. His research at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center focused on developing innovative approaches to human genome analysis for glucose tolerance test (time-series) in type 2 diabetes patients. He has published multiple manuscripts.

Mandar earned his MPH and PhD in epidemiology from the University of Texas and his MD in general medicine in India.
